World Book Day 2026
At Sandhill View, World Book Day is always a highlight of the school year as it celebrates the joy of reading and encourages students to explore new books and stories. It provides a great opportunity for the whole school community to share their enthusiasm for literature. As part of the celebrations this year, staff joined in the fun by dressing up as characters from a variety of books, helping to bring stories to life. Students also began the day with a tutor-time quiz, testing their knowledge of well-known books, authors and texts they have studied.
In period one, Key Stage 3 students began the SHV Travelling Story activity. Teachers introduced The Hitchhiker by Roald Dahl, and students made predictions about the plot before reading the opening section. The story then continued throughout the day, with each lesson revealing the next part until the entire story had been completed.
During break and lunchtime, students visited the school library to vote for their favourite staff costume and take part in our book themed scavenger hunt where a £20 book voucher prize was up for grabs!
Congratulations to Mr Roddy and Miss Lathean who won this years WBD Dress Up competition and to Mr Broughton’s form class who win this year’s Quiz. Well done!
