Our newly elected Student Council met with Ellie, the academy’s Mental Health Support Team liaison, to discuss how the subject of mental health is addressed here in school. Council members worked collaboratively to consider what we are already doing well here at Sandhill View; how we might improve our provision; how students and staff might recognise and celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week later in the year and what else the MHST can do to help. There were, as always, a great number of valid contributions to the discussions that took place, and Ellie was left impressed by the maturity and sensitivity with which our pupils shared their opinions about what can very often be a delicate subject, and both the MHST and staff here in school can now explore how some of the suggestions raised might be made into policy.
