Reading Information Evening
Last week we invited parents into school to discuss the importance of reading and how being a competent reader can lead to academic success. Ms Dolan and Mrs Patel explained the process of learning to read with parents and explained the reading interventions that we have in place for our students that need extra support. It was a great opportunity to explain all of the exciting things that we do as a school to promote a love of reading and show the brilliant resources available in the Learning Resource Centre. We are sending the information that was discussed at the event to parents via Class Charts for anyone that missed the event and would like to have this information.
On Monday evening the BBC Radio 4 Analysis: ‘Can learning to read really improve your life?’ programme from children’s author Julia Donaldson broadcast which focuses on how reading for pleasure a key indicator in a child’s future outcome is. Last week, some of our students were interviewed as part of this programme and it was great to hear their voices on national radio.
