Rain Soaked Research
Last week, despite the torrential rain and saturated ground Year 8 have donned their wellies and waterproofs and been soil sampling in their Environmental Studies lessons. Students have been using soil core sampling tools to investigate soil type and structure, making links between conditions for growing food and linking to prior knowledge of infiltration rates. The weather might have been terrible but students thoroughly gaining hands on practical experience!
Year 7 have been carrying out a survey into the health of our school habitats. Using resources from the National Education Nature Park they have identified the different habitats and species found in the school grounds. Just as well the flowcharts were waterproof!
Year 9 have been studying the ecological, historical and cultural importance of UK woodlands. This week students have been studying the traditional management of woodlands; in particular charcoal making.
