National Careers Week 2026
Last week across the UK is national careers week and we have celebrated this across the academy to raise awareness of career pathways for our students. The week has been packed full of visitors across year groups and classes, both in and out of school.
During assembly we invited Newcastle Sixth Form College to give support to Year 11 on application writing and CV writing. We have had the sixth form and Sunderland college talk to year 8 and 9 about options and pathways after year 11 to get them ready for a journey which is not too far away. We invited Helen Wardropper from the North East BIC to talk to year 10 about self employment and what it is like to be an entrepreneur. She spoke about all of the funding available in Sunderland for people who want to start their own business and how they can support. It was all very exciting to hear.
Students in Years 7-9 have taken part in Mars day within the science department where they have listened to live seminars from people working in the space industry, finding out how they got to work in these roles, what their jobs entail and what skills they need. Schools across the country were watching at the same time and students could interact with the session by asking questions online.
