Mental Health with the Mercians
Students in Years 7 – 9 were treated to a live music performance with up and coming Indie band, The Mercians.
The Leicester-based band are currently touring UK schools to promote their music and raise awareness of mental health issues and the importance of looking after yourself and others. It’s a subject they feel passionate about, as they have all experienced the negative effects of anxiety and depression at some point in their lives.
Band members spoke about the symptoms of mental health issues and the importance of seeking help through family, friends, teachers and organisations. They also discussed the topic of misogyny and how it can lead towards violence and hatred towards women, as well as sexist behaviour and how we can encourage gender equality so that everyone feels empowered and treated fairly.
The band then delighted students with performance that combined original music and popular covers. You can find out more about the band on social media @themercians, download their music at Spotify and and watch music videos on Youtube.
