Medical Minds in Action
Last Monday, a group of Year 9 students attended Sunderland University as part of the final session of the Routes into Healthcare programme. During the visit, students learned about the pathways into healthcare careers and what is required to study subjects such as Medicine at university.
The day provided a real insight into life as a medical student. Students were presented with a patient case study and worked throughout the day to reach a diagnosis. They explored anatomy using specialist imaging technology, learned how to identify organs and tissues, and took part in practical clinical activities including monitoring blood pressure, oxygen levels and heart function.
The visit concluded with students discussing their diagnoses and proposing treatment plans. It was a fantastic and inspiring experience that gave students a valuable glimpse into the world of healthcare.
Well done to all involved!
