Exploring Durham University
A group of 20 year 8 students spent the day at Durham University last week. They had a tour of the campus which they found amazing. Lots of students were excited about the character of the buildings, how clean it was and how inspiring it felt. They completed a campus quest on the tour where they had to gather information about the university and its buildings. As part of the tour we went into a lecture theatre which housed over 500 students. This was incredible for them- it felt like climbing a mountain to get to the back row of the theatre, which of course was the students plan as soon as they walked in!
The students had lunch in the cafe and felt the atmosphere of student life, learning about what it is like to be a student at Durham. They also took part is sessions including what does achievement look like, careers and what can they study at Durham. This latter session involved students selecting surprise items from a big blue box and using them to think of potential courses it would be related to at the university, items included football, maps and inflatable trumpets. The students had lots of fun. The students behaviour was outstanding and they represented Sandhill View very well.
