Students had the pleasure of meeting Professor Hackett yesterday from Durham University. He discussed with them what a degree in Sociology and Criminology would obtain, how they themselves could get there and told some fabulous stories of how he found himself inspired to go into this field as an adult. The students were extremely engaged and asked the most interesting and deep questions about the subjects. The highlight came when students were able to try on the graduation gown. They were very surprised to hear that decades ago students had to add money to the pocket of the professor’s gown to pay for lectures at University! It really was an interesting and inspiring hour; we look forward to meeting Professor Hacket when we visit Durham University.
