Catching Up With Our Alumni
This week at Sandhill View we have been celebrating our alumni. On Monday Luke Hobson who graduated from us in 2009 joined us in the theatre to share his amazing experiences since leaving. Luke works as a sound engineer for ITV and is currently based on the set for Coronation Street. Luke spoke to all students in Years 8, 9 and 10 about careers in the industry and what it is like to work on Coronation Street. He showed us footage from behind the scenes and scripts for the show. Luke explained to us how a scene is filmed and how the skill of ‘communication’ is vital to his job. One episode of the show costs £10,000 to make, without good communication a lot of money can be wasted. Luke brought in technical pieces of equipment which the students were allowed to hold. The students were incredibly respectful and set a great example for the school. Lots of fun was had by all.
On Tuesday we held an alumni celebration where we were visited by alumni including Jonathan Greener who graduated in 2008, Luke Hobson 2009 and Alfie Hartley in 2021. The alumni had breakfast together and connected over fond memories of life in school. We invited students from year 10 to join us throughout the day. The alumnus shared stories with students and offered powerful advice about next steps and how they can be successful and happy. We heard about Jonathan’s work within education and football, Lukes time spent working at Manchester United and Alfie’s experiences as an accountancy student at Leeds University. The alumni received a tour of the school – which was a lovely trip down memory lane for them.
We are looking to grow our alumni network further. If you know anyone who attended Sandhill View and would like to keep in touch with us please direct them to SHV Stay Connected on the school website or contact Mrs McCombe.
