Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week

The theme of CMHW this year is ‘Let’s Connect’, and up and down the country children have been working together to forge stronger relationships with one another, improving wellbeing and mental health in the process. In conjunction with the mental health charity Place2Be, the Channel 4 comedy panel show Taskmaster has created a series of challenges for students to undertake each day. Each daily ‘task’ – which included challenges like ‘make the best rainbow’ and ‘choreograph a new dance’ – was designed to encourage children to connect with one another and work as a team, improving resilience, communication, problem-solving and creativity skills in the process.

Here at Sandhill View, students from years 7 to 10 have been doing exactly that, and – as you can see from the photos – have produced some outstanding results: a testament to the positive collaborative work ethic and inclusive community spirit here at SHV.

We were also joined by representatives of the NHS who spoke in assembly about the importance of mental health, the struggles people can have with thoughts, anxieties and emotions everyday and how to recognise and name feelings as well as where to find help should you or someone you love be suffering from poor mental wellbeing.
