Down on the Farm
Last week students from the Land Based Studies course attended Bowlees Education Farm in Middleton in Teesdale.
Students were able to get hands-on experience with a range of farm animals and domestic pets. Students were able to handle, sheep, goats, calves, pigs, horses, dogs, cats, guinea pigs and rabbits. Students were putting their theory into practice, whether checking the weight of pig, learning about the weaning process of goat kids or providing a grooming session for the farm’s guinea pigs and rabbits. Students gained valuable experience of what the day-to-day running of an upland farm entails.
Students were also able to help complete a full farm walk where students were able to learn about farming in an upland area and in a protected landscape.
All involved had an amazing day in the glorious sunshine, in an equally beautiful location!
