Swimming Superstars at the Gala
Students from Year 7 and Year 8 represented Sandhill View in the Sunderland school games swimming gala competing against seven other schools. It was a successful day as our students swam fantastically well reaching the finals in most races and picking up medals in both team and individual events.
Felix (Year 7) came second in heat and just missed out on a medal in the 25m Frontcrawl finishing 4th in the final overall. Ella (Year 7) competed in the 25m Backcrawl, she came second in her heat securing a place in the final where she picked up the Bronze medal. Amelia (Year 8) also qualified for the 25m Frontcrawl final where she narrowly missed out on a medal finishing 4th overall. Cheiron (Year 8) was in fantastic form as he powered into first position in the 25m Backcrawl heats then replicated this in the final receiving the gold medal.
Our students also competed in team events where all our students showed sportsmanship, great effort and support for one another.
The Year 7/8 girls showed great effort in both the 4 x 25m FC and 4 x 25m IM relays, they were just short of medal positions but knocked four seconds off their personal best time. The boys were brilliant in the 4 x 25 IM relay and raced to victory picking up the gold.
Special mentions go to Felix, Cheiron and Bailey who went out on loan to St Roberts. The boys were asked if they would help St Roberts out as they did not have a enough swimmers to race in the team events. Our boys showed great sportsmanship and jumped at the chance to help them out even swimming up a year group competing in the year 9/10 team races. Their sportsmanship and determination paid off and along with the St Roberts boys managed to get Gold in both the team events. Well done to all that took part.
