Routes into Medicine
A group of enthusiastic Year 9 students recently took part in an engaging workshop focused on exploring the various routes into a career in medicine. The session was designed to inspire young minds and provide them with a clearer understanding of the steps involved in becoming a medical professional.
Throughout the workshop, students learned about the academic pathways, including essential GCSE and A-level subjects, university application processes, and the importance of gaining relevant work experience. The session also covered different roles within the medical field, from doctors and surgeons to nurses and allied health professionals, helping students appreciate the diversity of opportunities in healthcare.
Interactive activities, such as mock diagnosis scenarios and problem-solving tasks, allowed students to experience some of the challenges and rewards that come with working in medicine. They also had the opportunity to ask questions and hear from current medical students and professionals about their own journeys.
The workshop sparked curiosity and excitement among the students, many of whom expressed a renewed interest in pursuing a future in healthcare. It served as a valuable starting point for those considering a medical career and encouraged all participants to aim high and believe in their potential to make a difference in people’s lives.
