Celebrating Our Green Fingered Students
After a year of dedication and hard work by our Eco Team and students from every year group, we this week held our annual garden party. Governors and special guests were invited to celebrate and see the incredible projects our pupils have accomplished this year.
Among the highlights, we proudly recognised the students who won the ‘Wonder Challenge’ for their innovative eco-friendly sustainable transport project.
This Summer we are also recipients of the Woodland Trusts’ Green Tree Gold Award as recognition for the hard work, dedication and determination of the Eco Team and wider school to make a positive impact on the biodiversity of our school grounds. We have been working through activities to demonstrate student understanding of the importance of protecting UK woodlands, spreading awareness and attending trips to visit alternative woodlands. The award recognises the positive difference made by the students of Sandhill View. This award is recognition of the four years of work that has built up to this point. As a school we have planted over 500 mature and sampling trees, creating vital wildlife corridors, raised awareness of the importance of urban green spaces, taking action to reduce carbon emissions and spread the word of environmental stewardship in the wider community.
Guests were excited to explore the thriving garden, where students showcased the produce grown in the plant beds and poly tunnel. They also highlighted their efforts to support local wildlife by creating mammal and bug hotels, insect hives, and a wormery to encourage biodiversity as well as the chickens and ducks who are cared for in our garden by staff and students.
