Transition from Primary School
My name is Miss Scott and as the Head of Year 7, you’ll get to know me very well. I will be the person in school you will come to if you have any worries, problems or questions. I am also the person who is responsible for ensuring that all our new students have excellent attendance, punctuality and behaviour.
I also want to make sure that Year 7 do their work well and are given the right help if they need it. Many of you may know me from your child’s Primary Schools where I visit regularly as part of my job, which is to make sure all Year 5 and 6 visit Sandhill View often to take part in our exciting taster sessions and special activity days. I do this to make sure that our new students are not worried or frightened about moving to secondary school.
At Sandhill View Academy we know that the transition from primary to secondary school is an extremely important time for students but together I hope we can make the process as fun and as simple as possible for everyone involved. For more information on everything we do, please see below.
Sandhill Best Bites
To help future pupils of Sandhill View Academy we’ve put together a handy booklet to help them learn everything they might need to know about life at the school. You can view this booklet below or alternatively download it here.
What We Do to Support Transition
We have an extensive programme of transition events in place for Year 5 and 6 students, to help make their transition to secondary school as smooth as possible. These include…
Transition Week: A week long visit to SHV for Year 6 students introducing lessons they will take in Year 7.
Taster Sessions: Fun afternoons for small groups of Primary pupils from Years 5 & 6 to enjoy the 12 different subjects we teach.
Specialist Days: From drama workshops & sports days to ‘World Pi Day’ & ‘World Book Day’ we invite Primary pupils to enjoy these events in a new environment.

The Transition Process
The process begins at our Academy Open Evenings in September. We throw open our doors to parents and pupils to get a taste of what Sandhill View has to offer, try fun learning activities, meet our current students and teachers and soak up our school atmosphere.
Parents then select their school preference via a form or online before the school admissions deadline in October.
Year 6 pupils will then be offered the chance to take part in our transitions events as shown above, giving them the opportunity to learn about our school and what to expect when they start in September.
After Easter we will write to all of our prospective parents, welcoming you to our school and confirming the details of the transition process. This cumulates in our Year 7 welcome evening where students and parents will enrol into our school, receive more information about our curriculum along with a welcome pack and have a chance to meet their form tutors and order uniforms for September.
Students will then complete transition into Year 7 in September when they start their secondary school life at Sandhill View Academy.
