Sandhill View Academy is a secondary education school located in Sunderland, Tyne & Wear, England. The school is part of a multi-academy trust alongside the nearby Southmoor Academy, allowing the two schools to work together closely and pool their resources in order to improve the education of pupils in their respective areas.
A brief history of Sandhill View
Sandhill View was established in 1953 and has been an important part of its community since its founding. Over the years the school has undergone much growth and development, especially in recent years. Sandhill View moved into a new modern building on the site of the original building in 2002, under the headship of Mr. Phil Marshall, who left the school in 2004 to join Monkwearmouth School.
This modern school site contains some truly first class facilities including a community sports facilities, swimming pool, community library, theatre, youth club, motor vehicle workshop, industrial kitchen, learning resource centre, specialised SEN facilities and community education facilities.
After an unfavourable Ofsted inspection in 2013 the Governors took decisive action to turn around the school by appointing a new acting Headteacher in Dr. Phil Ingram. Dr. Ingram is a vastly experienced and award-winning Headteacher who arrived at Sandhill View having led two previous schools. In both his previous headships he oversaw huge rises in examination results as well as a host of other very positive changes.
Dr. Ingram has recently led Southmoor Academy though a range of challenges including two successful Ofsted inspections, academy conversion and the opening of the first non-faith school based Sixth Form in Sunderland. Both Southmoor and Sandhill are now working very closely together to achieve positive results, forming a multi-academy trust after Sandhill View converted to an Academy in July 2015.
The school is now run by the Academy Trust under the direction of Dr. Ingram as Trust CEO and our Headteacher, Mr. Richard Carr with an entirely new leadership team who have since been working hard to improve the outcomes for the pupils who attend the school. This has included the appointment of a new and passionate team of teaching and support staff, a revamped behavioural system, reward initiatives and improved links into our community as well as many more important changes.
